Maria Lane Bursaries
For Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women undergraduates enrolled at any of the South Australian universities.
Applicants:
- Must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women,
- Must be undertaking subjects for their second or subsequent year of their Bachelor degree, or undertaking an Honours year at a South Australian unversity,
- Must not be employed full-time, or on fully-paid study leave,
- Must not have received the Padnendadlu Undergraduate Bursary in 2010.
The bursaries are envisaged as a short-term aid to assist with the completion of the 2011 academic year. Examples of purposes for which the Bursary may be used are equipment or book costs, fees incurred because of study commitments, short-term assistance with living expenses or any other purpose that will assist with the completion of the academic qualification for which the applicant is enrolled.
Academic merit is the selection criterion carrying the most weight. This is followed by financial need, and how essential the purpose for which the bursary will be used is to the progress or completion of the degree. These two criteria have roughly equal weight.
The amount of each Bursary will not exceed $A1,000, but may be less depending on the requirements of each successful applicant. More than one bursary may be offered if enough funds are available. No one will be awarded more than one bursary in any one year. In exceptional circumstances the trustees of The AFUW-SA Inc. Trust Fund reserve the right not to award a bursary.
Money for this award has been provided by Mr Joe Lane, the husband of the late Maria Lane, who was a member of AFUW-SA and who constantly worked towards improving the education and general welfare of Aboriginal people.
Your application must reach the Trust Fund's secretarial service by 31 March, 2011.
